VAO and CARFAC Ontario

As many of you know, Visual Arts Ontario has been in a state of flux for many months. At the end of 2010, following considerable deliberation, VAO members supported the Board’s decision to wind down the organization, and select CARFAC Ontario as a new home for VAO members.

CARFAC Ontario is a very logical choice for our members. With its long and distinguished role in the Ontario arts community, CARFAC (like VAO) both supports and advocates for artists, as well as supplies services and programs for the artistic community. While the Board and VAO members are no doubt saddened that VAO is at this turning point in its history, the organization has had a distinguished and memorable run and we are pleased for our members that many of the services they have known will be continued through an organization with which many of them are already familiar.

CARFAC Ontario will assume and develop many of VAO’s most popular programs from the past several years, including Professional Development Workshops and Internet Learning Modules, and publications such as On Your Own; Alternative Exhibition Strategies, Perfect Portfolio and Survival Skills: A Visual Artist’s Guide to Professional Practice.

Many VAO members are also members of CARFAC Ontario, and are familiar with their work on behalf of artists in Ontario. By early February, current VAO members (as of June 2009), will have been contacted by email regarding a 50% discount on an introductory CARFAC Ontario membership.

Finally, please mark your calendar for Thursday February 24th from 6 – 8 p.m.

An information and communication session and welcome reception for all VAO members will be held at:

CARFAC Ontario: 401 Richmond St. W., Suite 440

Representatives from both Visual Arts Ontario and CARFAC Ontario will be in attendance to answer your questions.
