Artist's Statement
The term collage derives from the French "coller" meaning “glue”. The idea behind it is to attach together different pieces of artwork, thus creating a mixture of forms, - “a new whole”. An artistic collage work may include anything you wish to use. In my case it's mostly printed images from modern media. Everything I've created I had found in pieces somewhere else using traditional techniques rooted back to China around 200 BC and developed later on in Medieval Europe.
I fell in love with this art a while ago, back in Russia, at a small collage exhibition in the Museum of Arts in Moscow. Quite-by-chance visit, as I remember going to a bigger cultural event next door, resulted in inspiration to create something new, genuine, unique.
I started by doing a number of works only for myself and close friends as a gift of love and appreciation. Over the years, what was once a hobby became a passion. Together we went through some good and bad times. So here I am now with my artwork for you to enjoy.
